    The Mighty Angel is Jesus Christ!
      “The mighty angel who instructed John was no less a personage than Jesus Christ.” {
7BC 971.3} Of course we would come to this conclusion—

      1. The description of the Mighty Angel is very much the same as Christ appearance to John in Rev 1:10-16. See also description of Christ at His transfiguration. Matt 17:2; Luke 9:29.  (See also Dan 10:5, 6; Dan 7:13; Acts 1:9.)
      2. The progressive message of Revelation shows that Christ, by His blood as the Lamb, paid for the book in the Father’s hand, and thus was able to receive the book from the Father. Rev 5:1-7.
      3. Following again the progression of events we see the Lamb, who now has the book, begin to open the first seal of the book. Rev 6:1. (The seals are opened, verses broken or removed, because each of the seals have a message which Jesus gives.) Of course, it stands to reason that the seals of the book must be opened first before the book can be opened and read. Rev 5:4. Even as the seals are opened, and their messages are made known, we hear the voices of thunder! Rev 6:1.
      4. Continuing to watch the progression of events through these chapters, we see that they are related to the very last-day events —the end of indignation— for the 144,000 take their place among these last events. And it seems fitting that there should be the blowing of trumpets (Rev 8 & 9); demanding that all people’s attention is turned to the reading of the little book and to hear the voices seven thunders.
      5. And now we come to chapter 10 where we see Jesus with a little book open in His left hand which He received from His Father. It is not the complete book given Him by the Father, but a smaller portion of it.
      6. The Mighty Angel brings with Him a multi-colored rainbow covenant, which He also receives from the Father. Rev 4:3. Concerning matters of salvation, only the Father and His Son Jesus, can make a covenant with the people’s of this earth. Rom 11:27; Heb 8:10, 12; Acts 3:25-26.
      7. We can also see that the Mighty Angel is Jesus because of the swearing of an oath in verses 5, 6, and 7. Jesus can only sware by Himself, for there is no greater than He. (Heb 6:13; Heb 7:21; Luke 1:72, 73) If then the Mighty Angel is Jesus, and He is swearing an oath by Himself, then we can see that He is swearing this oath as Creator. Jesus is not only our Creator, He is our Re-Creator, —justification by faith. Only the Creator could bring this oath to the last generation and only the Creator has the power and right to say “ that there should be time no longer” so that “the mystery of God should be finished.”

Thought Question: This brings us to a most interesting investigation —to be placed in another study. Swearing an Oath.

    Standing on the sea and on the land.
      “Setting His right foot on the sea, and His left upon the dry land, shows the part which He is acting in the closing scenes of the great controversy with Satan.” {7BC 971.3}
      Interestingly, this stance of Jesus clearly shows that He is in control of the last-day events. You may ask, but how does this show a last-day events setting? The answer is in the book of Daniel. Not only should we understand the stance of Jesus in the book of
Revelation, but we must take special note of where He is standing in the book of Revelation and where He is standing in the book of Daniel. In the book of Daniel we find a key that helps us understand why Jesus stance in Revelation is important to us, standing among last-day events.
      Daniel: —We find Daniel by the side of the great river Hiddekel in chapter 10:4-7 and the description of the “man clothed in linen” is nearly the same as what John sees. (Rev 1:13-16 and Rev 10:1) Both Daniel and John see Jesus, but there is something very different about where they see Him. Daniel sees Jesus walking “upon the waters of the river” (Dan 12:6) asking “How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?” (Dan 12:5-9) Daniel sees Jesus at the head-waters, so to speak, of prophetic history; at the beginning of the 2300 years. The river is a symbol of the prophetic symbolic times (years) which Daniel was faithful to write down. The question is asked, How long is the river? and the answer is that the prophetic river will run through-out the course of history for at least 2300 years.
      Revelation: —John sees Jesus as a Mighty Angel clothed in a cloud, representative of white linen, (yet the cloud has more meaning when seen with thunders and a covenant rainbow; i.e. a storm) with “His right foot on the sea, and His left upon the dry land.” (Rev 10:1) This stance that John sees of Jesus, shows that He is at the end of the river of prophetic history where the river joins the sea (at end of the 2300 years). Therefore, we see Jesus standing, an act which is a symbol of being in control, over those who live in the sea (non-Christians in chaos [FS]) and those who live on the land (grass, trees; Christians, i.e. seal of God) during the end-time events, at the end of the prophetic time river. In Daniel we see that the true meaning of his prophecies “are closed up and sealed till the time of the end,” but in Revelation we see Jesus at the end of the river opening the little book (of Daniel) so that its true last-day meaning and fulfillment can be understood (as seven thunders).
      Ellen White’s definition is found in the sixth paragraph. “The angel’s position, with one foot on the sea, the other on the land, signifies the wide extent of the proclamation of the message. It will cross the broad waters and be proclaimed in other countries, even to all the world.”

Thought Question: In light of the foregoing study, where do the four beast come from in Daniel 7:2, 3? —The sea. What might this mean, “came up from the sea” while “the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea?” (The winds of strife are being held; Rev 7:1)
